In the past few years there has been support both publicly and privately to raise the minimum wage. In New York, Governor Cuomo spoke about raising it to $11.50 and Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio was thinking about raising it to $15. Even Walmart (NYSE: WMT) and Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) gave its employees a raise. However, there are some hold outs, mostly in fast food. On Wednesday, anywhere from 2,000 to 5,000 people took part in the protest for higher wages at McDonald's (NYSE: MCD) corporate headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois. Both cooks and cashiers took part in the march hoping to deliver the petition with more than 1 million signatures calling for McDonalds to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. According to CNN, this demonstration is only one of many protests SEIU is holding in their $80 million campaign to raise the minimum wage for fast food workers. Even though this campaign was large and in some ways extremely successful, McDonald's still will not give their workers a raise or a union. "The union has spent its members' dues money in the past two years attacking the McDonald's brand...in an unsuccessful attempt to unionize workers," a statement put by McDonald's said.
